For the first few years that I used Photoshop, I learned mainly on a trial and error basis. It helped to have friends who also enjoyed digital artwork to critique you, but I still think that the best way to learn is by experimenting. When I first started using Photoshop, everything was foreign. The more I used it, the more I picked up on the tools and functions it offers. And now I am able to combine other programs with it to create more advanced designs. For instance, I can make a web layout in Photoshop, slice it up, and import the pieces into Flash to make a website. On the other hand, I could sculpt 3-dimensional models in Cinema 4D and import them into Photoshop for extra effects.
